Doctor Who's Karen Gillan to play 60s model Jean Shrimpton

Via the BBC:

The 23-year-old TV star will play sixties supermodel Jean Shrimpton in a BBC Four film, which will be screened later this year.

We'll Take Manhattan will explore Shrimpton's relationship with British photographer David Bailey.

"I am so excited to be playing somebody who had such a lasting impact on the fashion world," Gillan said.

Bailey and Shrimpton helped shape the Swinging London era of the 1960s.

It's beginning to look a lot like Wonder Woman Wednesday.

Let your snarky comments about the costume begin now. Me, I think, y'know it's Wonder Woman for crying out loud. The costume, in whichever variation, has always been silly, and looks sillier yet when transposed to real life. Purists must admit that this one doesn't look much different than the original comic book version minus being a bit shinier and having pants, which, you must confess, are a tad more practical than bare legs when fighting crime. I'm more curious as to whether the show will be horrible and ridiculous or fun.

New comics March 30, 2011

Things I'll buy:

DETECTIVE COMICS #875 After a long time off the Bat-titles, I'm enjoying this run, even though Batman isn't Batman, but Dick Grayson in the costume.

DOCTOR WHO ONGOING VOL 2 #3 Ok, after enjoying the first issue of this quite a bit, I was put off by the weak art and so-so story in the second one. I'll stick it out a while longer to see how it goes. I'm not a fan of frequently changing creative teams, or frequently changing artists. You look at the history of comics, and they're always at their best when done by a dedicated creator/team over relatively long stretches.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #657 Still enjoying Slott's run as writer and this one offers more great Marcos Martin art, I believe.

AVENGERS #11 More John Romita, Jr., art.
