Pop focus: DC Comics' Super Giants

Last week here we launched a series of galleries spotlighting DC Comics' 100-page titles of the 1970s. That's the era when I first discovered comics and I have fond memories of these huge titles, which combined new and old stories into one relatively affordable package.

Before the current golden age of comics re-prints, these comics were the only way to see stories from the forties, fifties and sixties. I enjoyed seeing what Batman, Superman and the rest were up to before I was born. And seeing the work of great creators of those eras.

Before the 100-page "super spectaculars," however, there were "DC Giants," which appeared on comics racks between 1970 and 1976. And that's what we highlight today.

As I said here last week, this series of galleries was inspired by Back Issue magazine, which recently did its own study of DC's thick, re-print titles. I highly recommend Back Issue #81, which you can order here.

Also from the 1970s is the DC Special series, which we'll take a look at sometime down the road.

  1. I had that Aquaman one! Wish I could find those comics again cheap.
