So long, Hugh Masekela

The South African trumpeter, famed for his hit "Grazing in the Grass" and his solo on the Byrds' "So You Want to Be a Rock'n'Roll Star," died today at age 78.

Here he is performing at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.

  1. I wasn't familiar with Hugh Masekela, but given how often i enjoy your tastes as presented here, i grabbed Grrr and started listening. A half dozen albums later, i'm a definite fan. I've been listening to his music every night since this post, and find myself liking his work more each day. One song might resonate with Delta Blues, the next echo the Island music i grew up with, and another might seem right at home on Miles Davis's Bitch's Brew.

I'm sorry we lost him, but i'm glad you the light that way to let me see what we lost.
    Thanks.
