Datajunkie celebrates Captain Action.

A CGI adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter: Warlord of Mars" is in the works.

The Pixar creative team spent Tuesday morning exploring the massive Edgar Rice Burroughs archives in the ERB, Inc. offices on Ventura Blvd. Pixar's Jim Morris (vp), Andrew Stanton (director), Mark Andrews (script) discussed the "John Carter of Mars" film project with Burroughs representatives, Danton Burroughs, Sandra Galfas and Jim Sullos.

All six members at the meeting expressed a deep commitment to the project, acknowledging that they had been inspired by Burroughs' creations from a very early age. This is evidenced in the excitement held for the John Carter property and the plans for a film trilogy faithful to the Burroughs books. Projected release date is sometime before 2012.

iTunes now features music by George Harrision.

The American storefront currently highlights just one album: a 2001, double-disc remastering of Harrison's "All Things Must Pass," including alternate versions of tracks such as "My Sweet Lord" and "Isn't It a Pity," as well as a behind-the-scenes promotional video. Also present however are a number of other albums, such as "Cloud Nine," "Live in Japan" and "Living in the Material World."

Batman Unauthorized: Vigilantes, Jokers, and Heroes in Gotham City
Edited by Dennis O'Neil
Compiled by a veteran writer of the comic series, this collection of essays explores Batman’s motivations and actions, as well as those of his foes. Batman is a creature of the night, more about vengeance than justice, more plagued by doubts than full of self-assurance, and more darkness than light. He has no superpowers, just skill, drive, and a really well-made suit. One of the most recognized superheroes ever created, Batman has survived through campy TV shows and films, through actors like Adam West, Michael Keaton, and Christian Bale. It covers both the silly and the solemn, asking questions like Why is the Joker so good at pushing Batman’s buttons? What does Batman’s technology say about the times? Why are Batman’s villains crazier than average? and Why is Batman the perfect, iconic American hero?

Complete Little Orphan Annie Vol. 1
Volume One of The Complete Little Orphan Annie contains more than 1,000 daily comics in nine complete stories, from the very first strip in August 1924 through October 1927. In the pages of "Will Tomorrow Ever Come?" readers will discover how Annie escapes the orphanage and is ultimately adopted by "Daddy;" how she finds that loveable mutt Sandy and rescues him from being tortured; how she meets the Silos, who become recurring characters throughout the series; how she joins the circus and first encounters Pee Wee the elephant; and how, broke and alone, she hits the road on a succession of dangerous yet spiritually uplifting adventures. This volume also includes an index, and a biographical essay by Jeet Heer.

Modern Masters Volume 16: Mike Allred
A few short years into his blossoming career, Mike Allred struck just the right chord when he introduced his hip, Pop-inspired creation Madman! The series won the Harvey Award for Best New Series, and from there Allred was well on his way, going on to create The Atomics and the critically acclaimed Red Rocket 7, as well as illustrate the fan-favorite X-Force/X-Statix series for Marvel Comics. So pull on your go-go boots and do the watusi - it's time to explore the weird and wonderfully way-out worlds of Mike Allred!

The Batcave Companion
The writer/editor of the critically acclaimed The Krypton Companion and the designer of the eye-popping Spies, Vixens, and Masters of Kung Fu: The Art of Paul Gulacy team up to investigate the Silver and Bronze Ages of Batman comic books in The Batcave Companion! Two distinct sections of this book follow the Dark Knight's progression from his campy "New Look" of the mid-1960s to his "creature of the night" reinvention of the 1970s, through art-jammed interviews with and examinations of the work of Carmine Infantino, Dennis O'Neil, Neal Adams, Dick Giordano, Len Wein, Steve Englehart, Elliot S! Maggin, Walter Simonson, Jim Aparo, Irv Novick and other fan favorites.

Titans Companion Volume 2
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, The Titans Companion Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off, covering the return of the Teen Titans to the top of the sales charts! Includes Chuck Dixon, Mark Waid, Karl Kesel, and John Byrne on writing the current generation of Titans! More with Marv Wolfman and George Perez! Neal Adams on redesigning Robin! Plus artwork by Adams, Byrne, Jimenez, McKone, Perez, and more!

Will Eisner And PS Magazine
Ever wonder what Will Eisner did after The Spirit ended its memorable and historic run? Well, Eisner started work on PS Magazine, which was just as innovative, interesting, and fun as The Spirit, but in different ways. Will Eisner and PS Magazine is based on interviews with Will Eisner and his collaborators, Chuck Kramer, Mike Ploog, Murphy Anderson, Dan Speigle, Alfredo Alcala, and Joe Kubert and also presents numerous examples of the covers and artwork from the magazine by this illustrious group of talent.

Bill Mauldin: Willie & Joe: The WWII Years
This is first of several volumes publishing the best of Bill Mauldin's single panel strips from 1940 to 1991 (when he stopped drawing). His Willie & Joe cartoons will be presented in a deluxe, beautifully designed two-volume slipcased edition of over 600 pages. The series is edited by Todd DePastino, whose Mauldin scholarship will be on full display in a biography of the artist coming in February 2008 from W. W. Norton. Willie & Joe will contain an introduction and running commentary by DePastino, providing context for the drawings, pertinent biographical details of Mauldin's life, and occasional background on specific cartoons (such as the ones that made Patton howl).

Details:

Spanning four decades, 'THE McCARTNEY YEARS' is a three volume DVD collection, featuring some of the world's best-loved music that has become the soundtrack to all our lives.

VOLUME ONE and VOLUME TWO contain the definitive collection of McCartney music videos. Starting in the 1970s with Paul McCartney's first solo single "Maybe I'm Amazed," the DVD includes the Wings promo video for "Band On The Run" as well as hits from the 1980s such as "Say Say Say," and the 1990s with "The World Tonight." It finishes with 2005's "Fine Line." The films can be viewed either in chronological order or as play-lists that have been personally arranged by Paul featuring his exclusive voiceover commentaries.

VOLUME THREE includes live performances taken from three classic McCartney live shows; "ROCKSHOW" filmed on Wings' 1976 World Tour, new edits of Paul's seminal "UNPLUGGED" in 1991 and Paul's now legendary headlining performance at 2004's GLASTONBURY Festival.

'THE McCARTNEY YEARS' is also packed with bonus features and extra never before seen footage and performances, including "Let It Be" from LIVE AID, archive interviews with Melvyn Bragg and Michael Parkinson, alternative versions of music videos and the full-length 2005 documentary "Creating Chaos at Abbey Road." Paul has recorded exclusive commentary and personal introductions for each promo video and each live concert.

This collection has been meticulously restored and all films polished, re-graded and given a new lease on life in Widescreen format with re-mastered stereo audio and for the first time the original recordings re-mixed into 5.1 surround sound. From the press release:

For over three decades, Saturday Night Live has been the source of young comedic talent and helped to launch the careers of countless performers, making them household names. Still considered iconic for their live performances from Studio 8H in New York, the original cast of SNL (including Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and John Belushi) set the tone for years to follow with their irreverent, edgy humor. Although only the second year on the air, the 1976-1977 season turned out to be the last for Chevy Chase, but the first for a young comedian named Bill Murray. The complete second season of SNL contains legendary musical performances by artists Joe Cocker, The Band, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, George Harrison, Frank Zappa, Chuck Berry, The Kinks, Santana and Tom Waits and classic appearances by hosts Lily Tomlin, Norman Lear, Steve Martin, Dick Cavett, Jodie Foster, Candice Bergen, Ralph Nader, Fran Tarkenton, Sissy Spacek, Elliott Gould and Shelly Duvall.
