Sad news: Former Wilco multi-instrumentalist Jay Bennett has died.

His friend Edward Burch told the Chicago Sun-Times that Bennett had died in his sleep and that an autopsy would be performed.

On the group's official website, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy wrote that the band was "deeply saddened by this tragedy".

Bennett...left Wilco after a series of conflicts with Tweedy that can be seen in the 2002 Sam Jones film I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco.

Earlier this month, Bennett sued Tweedy for breach of contract regarding his appearance in the film, in addition to alleged unpaid royalties for his work with the band.

My wife and I watched the Wilco documentary film, "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" a few weeks back and felt that Bennett and Tweedy had a very unhealthy passive-aggressive thing going.

Bennett seemed to think he was a full-collaborator, where Tweedy was the leader, but not a acting like it.

Bennett came across as pretty annoying, but I also sympathized with him quite a bit, because it was clear he was in a bad spot in that band. Plus, if you listen to the past couple of Bennett-less Wilco albums, you have to think that a lot of the experimentalism the band was praised for was his doing. The most recent Wilco LPs are pleasant, but bland.

Now here's a terrible idea:

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney are reportedly following up on that wished-for collaboration Dylan has mentioned in recent interviews.

“Paul has a home in California not too far from Bob’s so the idea is for the two to meet when Paul is in California over the summer,” says a well-placed mole.

“They’ll obviously want to work in privacy and it’s felt one of their homes will be the best bet.”
