Irish author Eoin Colfer has penned a sixth book for the late Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" "trilogy."

"And Another Thing...," published in Britain by Penguin and in the United States by Walt Disney's Hyperion, brings Dent, alien friend Ford Prefect and two-headed Galactic President Zaphod Beeblebrox back from the dead for more madcap adventures in outer space.

Colfer, best known for his "Artemis Fowl" series, said he had major misgivings before agreeing to take up where Adams left off, aware of the risk of a fan backlash and critical drubbing.

"I was aware that there would be definitely some kind of backlash, or even a frontlash before the backlash," Colfer said in an interview in London.

Michael Chabon, comic book fan and a favorite author of PCS (check out the Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Klay), tells NPR about his new book.

"Manhood For Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son"...is comprised of 39 personal essays, which present Chabon's take on everything from fatherhood to pocketbooks for men — with a rumination on his relationship with his ex-father-in-law thrown in for good measure.

NPR asks who are your favorite singers?

NPR is working on a feature that will profile 50 Great Voices over the next year. To help out, the network is asking folks to submit lists of their favorite vocalists of all time.

I tried to do so, coming up with the following list off the top of my head, in no particular order and, I'm sure, omitting folks I'll later be kicking myself over.

Louis Armstrong
Frank Sinatra
Nat King Cole
Jimmy Rushing
Joe Turner
Elvis Presley
John Lennon
Ella Fitzgerald
Dinah Washington
Billie Holiday
Mildred Bailey
Sarah Vaughn
Harry Nilsson
Brian Wilson

New comics Oct. 7, 2009: Buffy! Batman and Robin! Ghost Rider! Walt Disney's Comics and Stories!

New titles of interest this week:

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #29 More of season 8. Dig the great Sgt. Fury-homage cover!

BATMAN AND ROBIN #5 Still not terribly impressed by Grant Morrison's scripts on this Dick Grayson-as-Batman title.

ESSENTIAL GHOST RIDER VOL 3 A whole lotta Bronze Age horror heroics.

WALT DISNEYS COMICS & STORIES #699 Boom! Studio's revival of this title--featuring some superhero-themed stories about Donald and the gang. Not my cuppa, though I'm glad to see this kid title back on the stands.
