Reformed Beach Boys tune to debut May 1 in special Wal-Mart package

Wal-Mart: Ick. But you'll need to go there if you want an early listen to the reformed Beach Boys' remake of "Do it Again," which will be included on an 11-song best-of in something called a "commerative 'ZinePack," Billboard reports.
The package includes a 72-page magazine featuring rare photos and new interviews with Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine and David Marks, plus collectible postcards.
Johnston tells Billboard.com that the new version of "Do It Again" was recorded earlier this year "as, like, a warm-up exercise" as the Beach Boys prepared to work on an album of new material. "It was just something everybody knew and we could go knock it out in two hours, like a vocal warm-up exercise that's tracked," he says. "It was so easy, but it sounded really great and it went so well that we finished it and mixed it."
A new Beach Boys album, with Brian Wilson producing, is due out in June.

Pop culture roundup: Art exhibit celebrates Twin Peaks; McCartney's video good; Blue Jay Way for sale; Superman check auctioned; Rowling at work on Harry Potter encyclopedia; Record Store Day release list; more!

An art exhibit, co-curated by David Lynch, celebrates the 20th anniversary of "Fire Walk With Me," the prequel film to Lynch's freaky cult TV series, "Twin Peaks."

----

Whoops: A new video for Paul McCartney's song "My Valentine" features Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman conversing in sign language. Unfortunately, their signing is littered with mistakes:
Oscar-winning actress Natalie made the first mistake, signing the word 'tampon' instead of 'appear', while Johnny signed 'enemy', which was meant to be 'Valentine'.

-----

The Los Angeles home where George Harrison was inspired to write "Blue Jay Way" is up for sale. It's a nice pad, and the former home to Beatles' publicist Derek Taylor.

-----

The $412 check Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster received for the rights of Superman has sold for $160,000 at auction.

-----

Author J.K. Rowling says shes at work on a Harry Potter encyclopedia.

-----

This Saturday is Record Store Day. Several special releases, including many vinyl LPs and singles, will be up for sale in limited editions at record stores in the U.S. and U.K. See the list here.

Take an in-depth look at Don Draper's awesome new apartment from "Mad Men."

Dark Shadows: Original Barnabas Collins dies

Just a couple weeks before the new "Dark Shadows" movie with Johnny Deep in the role opens, the original Barnabas Collins, Jonathan Frid, has passed away at age 87.

Frid played the vampire on the supernatural soap opera on ABC from 1966 to 1971. He also makes a cameo in the upcoming film.
