Happy Pop Genius Day: Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney celebrate their 70th birthdays this week
Two brilliant songwriters who held down the bass guitar slots in their respective bands in the 1960s both turn 70 this week. Paul McCartney of the Beatles was born June 18, 1942, and Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, was born June 20.
Here's a 2002 live recording of them performing the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows," which Paul always cites as a favorite song. Not the greatest recording, but it's cool to hear these guys, even briefly, together.
