So long, Mike Nesmith

Very sad news, Mike Nesmith of the Monkees died today at age 78

Nesmith may've been the most musically self-contained of the made-for-TV group. In addition to appearing on the show, he had success as a songwriter, penning the hit "Different Drum," recorded by the Stone Poney's and featuring Linda Ronstadt on lead vocals. 

He later helped pioneer country rock with his First National Band recordings, and the home video market with his Pacific Arts Video media company.
