Drama on 4: "The Performer" - Matthew reflects on his childhood in surburban Carshalton Beeches in the 1960s, and the day his life changed when his father suddenly disappeared. Starring Stephen Fry.

Soul Music: "Sweet Thing" - "Sweet Thing" by Van Morrison has an atmosphere full of tenderness, wonder and joy. But underneath this there a feeling of transience, a melancholy sense of things coming to an end, and of inevitable change. It was written for his 1968 album Astral Weeks, at a time when the Northern Irish born Van had left his home country and was down-and-out in Boston, USA. We hear how the track has come to mean so much to so many.

Archive on 4: 7" of Joy: The Single at 75 - Pete Waterman, who knows a thing or two about the 7" single, charts its history since the 1940s.

Michael Palin's Radio Adventures - Actor-adventurer and Python, Michael Palin talks to John McCarthy, sharing more of his remarkable life as heard on BBC radio.

The Rival - Inspector Lestrade was made to look a fool in the Sherlock Holmes stories. Now he gets his own back, with tales of Holmes' rivals.

Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone - Stuart rounds up the unusual subjects including a Joe Meek rarity, some Italian prog, a bit of Norwegian piano jazz and a brace of great British cult guitarists. Plus his featured album is Hawaii, the 1996 avant pop masterwork from the High Llamas.

Riley and Coe - Featuring Jane Weaver live in session playing tracks from new album Love In Constant Spectacle.

Riley and Coe - Featuring a live session from Galen and Paul (Galen Ayers and Paul Simonon).
