Produced by in 1963 Jim Warren of Creepy and Famous Monsters of Filmland fame, Famous Monsters Speak features a script by Cherney Berg, who co-wrote and produced episodes of the groundbreaking 1950's TV series The Goldbergs, and also worked as story editor for the 1966 Rankin-Bass King Kong animated series.
Berg also handled writing chores for other spooky children's records, such as Scary Spooky Stories and The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. The album's first side is set at a super-scary scientific convention where they play recordings of the Frankenstein monster.
Side two focuses on everyone's favorite vampire, Dracula, in a story where someone stumbles upon the location of his crypt. The voice work for the entire album is done by Gabriel Dell, who had formerly starred in movies with the Dead End Kids, the East Side Kids, and the Bowery Boys.
The vinyl version of the album, originally released on the children's label Wonderland/Golden Records, has long been out of print, and is a highly sought after collectable. The Rockbeat re-release, unlike the original, will be issued on red/black splatter colored vinyl.
Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. The 1964 original children's album featuring Marni Nixon, Bill Lee, and Richard M. Sherman, fully restored from the original album master, available for the first time in over 30 years. Take home 10 Songs from Mary Poppins on blue vinyl.
