Hello readers,
I want to let you know that I'm shutting down Pop Culture Safari! at the end of this year.
I believe that the site has run its course and I've been feeling more and more that it's time for me to focus my time and energy on other projects.
We'll do a run of Christmassy posts next month -- I've always enjoyed the holidays -- and that'll be it. The site and all archive posts will remain online for the time being.
I have a couple of pop culture projects in the works that, when ready, I'll let you know about here, as I hope that you'll find them interesting. I'm also posting stuff that you may like on Bluesky, so please check that out.
In the meantime, I hope that you'll enjoy what we have in store over the next few weeks. It'll be both new and old holiday-themed posts, along with our look at comic book and magazine covers from 50 years ago (December 1974).
Thanks so much for tuning in over the years. We've had a good run together!
That's a bummer. This has proven to be a site I check out almost every day and I will miss it. But I totally understand the need to move on. It will happen at the Dojo one day, but not quite yet. Good luck with your future projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rip! This means a lot. Looking forward to continued visits to the Dojo.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see you go, but being a blogger myself, I totally get it. You posted an awful lot of fabulous stuff and always looked forward to what you would come up with next. Best of luck with your future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteThank you, John!
ReplyDeleteLike others, I check out your site almost every night as I fade into bed. You still have one of the best set of links to send me odd to (like Rip). Good luck and I look forward to your next efforts.
ReplyDeleteJohn, it’s been a genuine pleasure to check out your work daily. I’ve truly enjoyed and appreciated everything you’ve shared. It’s disappointing to hear that you’re stepping away, but I completely understand the need for a break.
ReplyDeleteEvery year, I set a deadline for myself to end my own blog, yet here I am, still going. I still earn a bit through Google ads and a few paid sponsorships, but is it really worth it? Who knows. What keeps me going is that it keeps me busy and connected to something I enjoy. Like you, I’ve also retreated to Bluesky—it feels like an entirely new frontier, offering fresh possibilities in a world that often feels upside down.
Sometimes, we all need to recharge our batteries and let the world run its own course for a while. I remember you took a hiatus before, and I truly hope you’ll return again when the time feels right. In the meantime, I’ll be following you on Bluesky. Thank you for all the years of entertainment, insight, and inspiration, my friend. What you created here truly mattered, and it will be missed.
I'm sorry to hear that. One by one, all our favourite blogs are slowly vanishing but you've put in an impressively long stint and have more than earned a rest. Good luck with whatever you do in the future.
ReplyDeleteOh man this sucks!! I love this site, and was planning on it to help me relax and escape in the upcoming four years! But all I can do now is emphatically say thank you for all the great entertainment and distraction you have provided in the last few years. You have brought great happiness to me and many others. Good luck and god speed on your next endeavor sir.
