New Music Friday: The Specials, Flamin' Groovies, Tom Tom Club, More

Our new release picks this week.

The Specials - Live From The Cathedral

Recorded live at their iconic run of shows in 2019 at Coventry Cathedral.

Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action (50th Anniversary Edition)

When Shake Some Action blasted onto the tired 1976 music scene, the Groovies' Dave Edmunds-produced update on British Invasion style, along with the Ramones debut that same year were the early tremors of the punk shockwave that has resonated for decades.

This 50th anniversary deluxe edition contains the original album remastered from the original analog tapes as well as a bonus disc filled with previously unreleased outtakes, alternate mixes and all existing tape from a 1976 live show recorded at The Roxy in Hollywood.

The release also includes an extensive booklet containing previously unseen photos and detailed liner notes by music historian Alec Palao.

Tom Tom Club - Let There Be Love

Five CD set. The complete studio works from Tom Tom Club, led by founding members Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz (Talking Heads). Includes the self-titled debut, Close to the Bone, Boom Boom Chi Boom Boom, Dark Sneak Love Action, The Good The Bad and the Funky, and Downtown Rockers. Featuring "Genius of Love", "Wordy Rappinghood", and more

Frank Zappa - ZAPPAtite: Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks

ZAPPAtite: Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks collects a healthy portion of Zappa's best-known compositions, from his early psychedelic rock beginnings to his avant-garde experimentation, jazz-rock explorations, symphonic suites & satirical send ups, compiling them into one easily digestible collection and offering key entryways into his many musical worlds.

It's divided into 4 courses: Appetizers, Entrees, Second Course, and Desserts. The food-centric theme oozes through the album art, which features Zappa in a diner on the cover and a tracklist resembling a menu. "This isn't a greatest hits album as Frank didn't really have 'hits,' per se, nor is it a 'best of' since that would be an impossibility to fit so much awesome onto one disc," says Ahmet Zappa.

"It's a veritable smorgasbord of musicality for the curious and a buffet of favorites for the fans, ZAPPAtite collects a cross section of my favorite songs composed by my dad. I hope you're hungry because this meal for your ears rocks!"
