Time Capsule: Vintage ad(s) - Billy Preston "That's the Way God Planned It"

Single released on the Beatles' Apple label on this day in 1969.

The tune features George Harrison and Eric Clapton on guitars, Keith Richards on bass, Ginger Baker on drums, with Doris Troy and Madeline Bell on backing vocals. I guess all the good studio musicians were booked on that day.




Time Capsule: The Beatles' final live performance, Jan. 30, 1969

The Fabs climbed to the roof of their Apple Corps HQ in London on this day 50 years ago to perform a set of tunes captured by cameras for inclusion in the "Let it Be" film. It would be the last time the band played live in public.







Pop Focus: Alan Aldridge, illustrated

British illustrator Alan Aldridge, who died Feb. 16, created a bevy of graphic artworks that will forever be associated with the late 1960s and early 1970s, including, perhaps, most famously, his book "The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics.

Pop Culture Safari readers are also likely familiar with Aldridge's cover art for The Penguin Book of Comics. He did a lot more besides.
