Sad news: Legendary Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto is dead at age 83.
She'll forever be known as the singer on the hit Stan Getz version of "The Girl from Ipanema," but there are other delights in her discography as well. I particularly like her late 1960s and early 70s albums such as September 17, 1969 and I Haven't Got Anything Better to Do, which see her covering tunes by the Beatles, Harry Nilsson, the Doors, Burt Bacharach, and more. A lovely singer with an immediately identifiable voice and style.
