Coming up: First-ever release of John Williams' "Jaws" score coming to vinyl

Mondo is releasing, for the first time, John Williams' score to "Jaws." Even the 1975 official release was a re-recording of the score used in the film. You can order it here.

Details:
One of the finest achievements in film music and quite possibly the most iconic score of all time, John Williams’ score to JAWS is absolutely essential for soundtrack collectors. While the Grammy-winning 1975 MCA album was a re-recording, our 2XLP set presents the entire Academy Award-winning score as composed and recorded for the actual film in its first-ever vinyl release. Album co-producer Mike Matessino restored, edited and mixed the music from the original studio elements for the best possible quality, approved by the composer himself.

Composed and Conducted by John Williams. Artwork by Phantom City Creative. Music Restored, Mixed, Edited & Mastered by Mike Mattesino. Additional Engineering for Vinyl by James Plotkin. Liner Notes by Mike Mattesino. Pressed on 2X 180 Gram Colored Vinyl. Featuring audio never before available on vinyl. Expected to ship Late October 2017. $35

Out now: Original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" soundtrack by Carmen Dragon

A new one from the folks at La La Land Records:
La-La Land Records, Paramount Pictures and The Carmen Dragon Music Library present the world premiere release of composer Carmen Dragon’s (COVER GIRL, WHEN IN ROME, KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE) original motion picture score to the classic 1956 sci-fi chiller INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter and Larry Gates, and directed by Don Siegel.
Renowned composer/conductor/arranger Carmen Dragon creates an astoundingly complex and groundbreaking work, (his inventive use of low, staccato piano notes for suspense would inspire many composers to do the same) that perfectly emboldens the film’s sci-fi terror and paranoia, while never neglecting the story’s human emotions or its psychological and sociological underpinnings.
Produced for La-La Land Records by Carmen Dragon’s son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Henn and Neil S. Bulk, and restored and mastered by Stephen Marsh and Fernando Lee, this limited edition release of 2,000 units includes source music bonus tracks and features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by film music Jeff Bond, with a special note from album co-producer Henn. Dan Goldwasser’s sharp art design completes a must-have score release that will take over your entire being.

Mammoth box set celebrates Bernard Herrmann's 100th

Variety takes a look at a spendy limited edition CD box set that collects the 18 motion picture scores the great Bernard Herrman wrote for 20th Century Fox.

Varese Sarabande's 14-CD, "Bernard Herrmann at 20th Century Fox" set is said to be the most comprehensive collection of one composer's work for a single studio ever released. Included are such film-score classics as "Jane Eyre," "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

Some of this music has been released before, although producers Nick Redman and Robert Townson say advances in technology have enabled them to coax better fidelity than ever from the 50-to-60-year-old recordings. And four scores from the 1940s and '50s -- "Hangover Square," "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," "White Witch Doctor" and "5 Fingers" -- make their debuts in this collection.

Herrmann, who started his career with "Citizen Kane" and ended with "Taxi Driver," composed 50 feature scores, but some (notably such Hitchcock classics as "Vertigo" and "Psycho") are more revered now than during the composer's lifetime.
