Kinks reunion? Band's official Twitter walks back comment by Ray

The Kinks' official Twitter feed this week walked back a statement Ray Davies reported made to Mojo magazine saying that a Kinks reunion is about the music and could occur even if his brother Dave doesn't participate.

MOJO is wrong. There will be NO Kinks reunion without BOTH Ray and Dave Davies. Ray Davies claims to have never...

 Here's what Ray told Mojo:
“Dave’s invited to the party, but if he doesn’t want to do it, [the reunion] will happen anyway,” reveals the singer. “He’s very welcome to turn up if he wants. I’d much rather work with him than without him.”

...Asked if The Kinks without Dave would actually be The Kinks, Davies replies, “Yes, it would. I think it’s all down to the music. If somebody can’t or won’t play, there are other players out there. [original Kinks drummer Mick Avory] and I want to do it.”

BBC specials highlight Kinks and Stones radio appearances

The BBC is presenting some of its vintage recordings of pop groups performing, and being interviewed, live in the studio. Click the links to listen. The Kinks show is available now, but will vanish in a couple of days. The Stones show isn't up yet, last I checked.

New Ray Davies album features questionable duets

Oh man, after a couple pretty darned good solo albums, Ray showed signed of backtracking with his "Kinks Kovers with Khoir" last year. Now there's this: More Kinks Kovers, but this time with duet partners. Some seem cool (Bruce Springsteen, Alex Chilton, Lucinda Williams) but others make me wince (Bon Jovi?! Metallica?! Billy Corgan?!). Yikes. I'll be skipping this one and hope that Ray will hunker down and record some new songs, on his own, next time around.

Here's the whole dodgy track list:

'Better Things (Featuring Bruce Springsteen)'
'Celluloid Heroes (Featuring Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora)'
'Days/This Time Tomorrow (Featuring Mumford & Sons)'
'Long Way From Home (Featuring Lucinda Williams & The 88)'
'You Really Got Me (Featuring Metallica)'
'Lola (Featuring Paloma Faith)'
'Waterloo Sunset (Featuring Jackson Browne)'
'Til The End Of The Day (Featuring Alex Chilton & The 88)'
'Dead End Street (Featuring Amy Macdonald)'
'See My Friends (Featuring Spoon)'
'This Is Where I Belong (Featuring Black Francis)'
'David Watts (Featuring The 88)'
'Tired Of Waiting For You (Featuring Gary Lightbody)'
'All Day And All Of The Night/Destroyer (Featuring Billy Corgan)'

The Kinks -- one more to remember Pete

So long Pete Quaife -- original Kinks bassist dies

Quaife was the Kinks' bassist up through 1969 and was therefore present on most of the band's classic albums. Sorry to hear this news. There has been much discussion in recent years about a reunion of the band's original lineup and, sadly, that's no longer possible.

The original Kinks are one of my all-time favorite bands (my most favorite, if they tend to be on the stereo at the moment) and I'm sure many of my fellow Kinks fans are saddened by this news. So, let's remember Pete with one of the loveliest pop tunes ever:
