Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus Volume 1 due in July

Next month sees the debut of a new Buffy series from Dark Horse Comics, which picks up where the TV series ended. This book, however, collects issues from Dark Horse's previous "Buffy" title.

Details:

The definitive comics collection of all things Buffy starts here. This first massive volume begins at the beginning-The Origin, a faithful adaptation of creator Joss Whedon’s original screenplay for the film that started it all. The newly chosen Slayer’s road to Sunnydale continues in Viva Las Buffy and Slayer, Interrupted. Next, Sunnydale, the Scoobies, and an English librarian lead the way into Season One continuity. Plus, The Goon creator Eric Powell provides pencils to "All’s Fair," featuring Spike and Drusilla at the 1933 World’s Fair.

I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.

Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views.

Joe Hunter, pianist on a zillion Motown hits, has died.

Hunter's piano work was an integral part of such songs as Martha and the Vandellas' "Heat Wave" and "Come and Get These Memories," and Marvin Gaye's "Pride and Joy." After Motown left Detroit in 1972, like many musicians, Hunter took what gigs he could find.

Joss Whedon talks to MTV about his upcoming "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" comic, which picks up where the series ended.

"The show was very mundane, deliberately mundane," Whedon said. "A comic has got to work on a grander, epic scale. We can really take the characters wherever we want, and of course, that means I can kill them. That's where the fun is, in revisiting these characters. It's like being with my old friends, but in actuality, not being with my old friends, because the actors aren't there to play them. It's a little different. This is bigger variations. It's a symphony based on the little tune we played."

The comic hits stand March 7.

Speaking of Joss: Despite Whedon working on a script to an upcoming Wonder Woman film he's set to direct, Warner Brothers is acquiring a spec script by newcomers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland.

Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that the purchase is a pre-emptive measure intended to keep the script off the market and to protect itself against any legal action prompted by similarities between the two scripts. The Jennison-Strickland script is reportedly set against the backdrop of World War II, while Whedon's script is set in the present day.

Daily Variety: So it was because of the censors that they were in twin beds?

Reiner: Absolutely. I fought and I said, "Dick sleeps in a queen-sized bed." They said, "No, no, what would it suggest?" I said, "Where did the kid come from? Did they jump from the next bed to do it?"
