The artists -- who come from the worlds of rock, pop, hip-hop and country -- include longtime activists U2 ("Instant Karma"), Green Day ("Working Class Hero"), R.E.M. ("#9 Dream") and Jackson Browne ("Oh My Love"); female pop powerhouses Christina Aguilera ("Mother"), Avril Lavigne ("Imagine"), and Corinne Bailey Rae ("I'm Losing You"); country stars Big & Rich ("Nobody Told Me"); alternative favorites Snow Patrol ("Isolation"), The Flaming Lips ("(Just Like) Starting Over"), Postal Service ("Grow Old With Me") and Regina Spektor ("Real Love"); best-selling rockers Aerosmith ("Give Peace a Chance"), Lenny Kravitz ("Cold Turkey") and Los Lonely Boys ("Whatever Gets You Thru the Night"); and pensive singer-songwriters Jakob Dylan with Dhani Harrison ("Gimme Some Truth") and Ben Harper ("Beautiful Boy").
The rights to Lennon's songs were generously donated by Yoko Ono, who has donated all music publishing royalties. Amnesty International chose to harness the power of Lennon's music to inspire a new generation of activists to stand up for human rights. Proceeds from CD and digital sales will support Amnesty International and its campaign to focus attention and mobilize activism around the urgent catastrophe in Darfur, and other human rights crises.
"It's wonderful that, through this campaign, music that is so familiar to many people of my era will now be embraced by a whole new generation," Ono says. "John's music set out to inspire change, and in standing up for human rights, we really can make the world a better place."

Newsarama has details on Image Comics' reprinting of Jack Kirby's late career series "Silver Star."
Erik Larsen: ...Jack wrote a screenplay years earlier and the Silver Star comic was adapted from that. Silver Star, as well as Captain Victory, were Jack's creator-owned work at Pacific Comics. We'll be publishing Captain Victory later this year. We're treating these projects with reverence they deserve, by painstakingly re-mastering the color in a manner that Jack would be proud of. Overseeing the restoration has been a gas.

The final piece of the Allen library to be released on DVD, LAND OF THE GIANTS gained a cult following in the late 1960s as it chronicled the adventures of The Spindrift, a commercial spaceship, and its passengers. On a sub-orbital flight from New York to London, the ship crash-lands on a remote planet similar to Earth, where the inhabitants and plant life are twelve times larger than the Spindrift’s passengers.
The heroes on board must do all they can to fight the totalitarian government that rules the planet and ultimately find a way to return home.

"Spider-Man 3" is a "bloated, uneven behemoth," says The Associated Press.
Spidey the Third feels like an even greater letdown following Spidey Part Deux, which was the rare sequel that surpassed the original. "Spider-Man 2" was driven by a strong story and compelling character development, and didn't just feel the need to dazzle us with elaborate effects (though the effects did indeed dazzle).
Here, Raimi overloads us with more -- more villains, more supporting characters and more plot lines -- spread out across more time. People and threats come and go, and the narrative feels scattered.

As if modern attention spans weren't short enough already: Sony is shrinking down episodes of old TV shows like "Starsky and Hutch" and "Charlie's Angels" to 3.5-minute "minisodes" for distribution on the Web.
As Steve Mosko, the president of Sony Television, described it, "So in 'Charlie Angels,' they have a meeting, Charlie's on the intercom telling them what the assignment is, there's a couple of fights, and then a chase, and they catch the bad guy. Then they're back home wrapping it up."

"Spider-Man 3" is a "bloated, uneven behemoth," says The Associated Press.
Spidey the Third feels like an even greater letdown following Spidey Part Deux, which was the rare sequel that surpassed the original. "Spider-Man 2" was driven by a strong story and compelling character development, and didn't just feel the need to dazzle us with elaborate effects (though the effects did indeed dazzle).
Here, Raimi overloads us with more -- more villains, more supporting characters and more plot lines -- spread out across more time. People and threats come and go, and the narrative feels scattered.

As if modern attention spans weren't short enough already: Sony is shrinking down episodes of old TV shows like "Starsky and Hutch" and "Charlie's Angels" to 3.5-minute "minisodes" for distribution on the Web.
As Steve Mosko, the president of Sony Television, described it, "So in 'Charlie Angels,' they have a meeting, Charlie's on the intercom telling them what the assignment is, there's a couple of fights, and then a chase, and they catch the bad guy. Then they're back home wrapping it up."
