DC announces plans for remaining Spirit Archives collections

Another tidbit from the official Will Eisner site: DC Comics will finish up its complete reprinting of Eisner's "The Spirit" with volume 26 of the hardcover Spirit Archives series.

The entire run of Spirit Sunday collections appears in volumes 1-24.

Volume 25 collects the entire run of Spirit daily strips, which ran from October 1941 to March 1944.

And everything Eisner did afterwards--covers for the Warren and Kitchen Sink Spirit reprint titles and other tidbits, will be published in volume 26.

You can order any of the Spirit Archives book from Amazon here.

Eisner P.S. Magazine artwork archive online

According to the official Will Eisner site, a big batch of the artist's work for the U.S. Army mag P.S.: The Preventive Maintenance Monthly is online here via Virginia Commonwealth University.

Eisner had a long-term contract producing the mag, which used comic book illustration techniques to show G.I.'s how to keep their jeeps, guns, etc., running. Master comic book artist Joe Kubert has provided illustration for the mag in recent years.

Info:

VCU Libraries is honored to present these rare examples of the incomparable art work of the late Will Eisner. In an effort to encourage soldiers to keep better care of their equipment, the US Army hired Eisner's American Visuals Corporation to do a digest-sized publication focusing on preventive maintenance. Each issue consisted of a color comic book style cover; eight pages of four color comic continuity story in the middle; and a wealth of technical, safety, and policy information printed in two color. Eisner drew and was artistic editor for PS Magazine from its inception in 1951 until 1972. Presented here are complete scans for 145 regular issues, 3 special issues, and 14 index issues.

"Doctor Who" spin-off "The Sarah Jane Adventures" makes its Sci Fi Channel debut tonight.

The show is decidedly aimed at a younger audience, with the idea that families would watch together. This probably won't appeal to the fan who only kind of likes Doctor Who but really digs Torchwood because of its "more adult" themes. Sarah Jane goes in the other direction with its 13 year old protagonists and toned down action. There is little violence, the monsters aren't quite as convincing as those The Doctor faces and things are a bit more simple and tidy than the other two shows in the "Whoniverse."
