Farewell Ravi Shankar

The virtuoso Indian musician Ravi Shankar passed away at age 92 today.

He was an influence on many musicians from all walks, including jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, who named his son after Shankar, and George Harrison of the Beatles.

Shankar served as a musical and spiritual mentor to Harrison and via his inspiration on popular music via the Beatles helped create an audience and appreciation of "world music."

He was also the father of musicians Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar.
