The superhero comic books that Marvel Comics has published since 1961 are, as Douglas Wolk notes, the longest continuous, self-contained work of fiction ever created: over half a million pages to date, and still growing. The Marvel story is a gigantic mountain smack in the middle of contemporary culture. Thousands of writers and artists have contributed to it. Everyone recognizes its protagonists: Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men. Eighteen of the hundred highest-grossing movies of all time are based on parts of it. Marvel brought the Doctor to comics in the 1980s - a time when the show played in very few U.S. markets but was starting to get attention via American versions of the British paperback novelizations of the show's stories (the way I got into the Doctor - it was years before I ever saw the show on screen).
The comics series featured reprints of stories originally published in Marvel UK's Doctor Who Weekly magazine.

Marvel's new film based on Jack Kirby's "The Eternals" is due out in November.
"The Eternals," based on the Marvel Comics series created by Jack Kirby is due out Nov. 5 and is directed by Chloé Zhao, who just won an Oscar for Nomadland. Cast members include Gemma Chan as Sersei, along with Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, and Kit Harington.
