Pop Culture Roundup: The bonkers side of Nebula, punk rock Doctor Who, rap at the Smithsonian and more!

ITEM! Karen Gillan will display the "bonkers side" of Nebula in the upcoming "Thor: Love and Thunder." (Nebula always has seemed pretty bonkers to me).

ITEM! Analog Planet remembers the Fourth World music of trumpter/composer Jon Hassell, who died this month. I've always been curious about whether Hassell's Fourth World is related to Jack Kirby's at all. I kinda don't think so, but both are fascinating and cool.

ITEM! Former "Doctor Who" star and, apparently, punk rock singer, Peter Capaldi has an album in the works.

ITEM! Speaking of "Doctor Who," the 1967 story "Evil of the Daleks," of which only one episode exists on video is being recreated in animated form.

ITEM! A bunch of people I've not heard of have been cast for Amazon's "Lord of the Rings" series, which I'll totally watch.

ITEM! The Smithsonian has compiled a 129-song rap anthology. For reals!

And that's the world we live in. Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Cover gallery: Marvel Comics' U.S. Doctor Who series

Marvel brought the Doctor to comics in the 1980s - a time when the show played in very few U.S. markets but was starting to get attention via American versions of the British  paperback novelizations of the show's stories (the way I got into the Doctor - it was years before I ever saw the show on screen).

The comics series featured reprints of stories originally published in Marvel UK's Doctor Who Weekly magazine.

There are some great Brian Bolland covers featured here.

ITEM! Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens" was renewed for a second season on Amazon.

ITEM! DC Comics has posted a tribute to the late, great scribe Denny O'Neill. The piece also appears in an 80th anniversary Green Arrow comic that's out this week.

ITEM! Shout! Factor is airing a 55th anniversary marathon dedicated to Japanese sci-fi series "Ultraman" in July.
