Pop Focus: Disney live action movies of the 1950s!

Mickey Mouse and animated features may be the first things to spring to mind when you think of Disney films. But all through the latter half of the 20th century, the studio was a live-action powerhouse.

These features were synonymous with family entertainment - safe and clean, though not without humor or adventure. Saying something was "Disney" often meant dull and sanitized, and there is an element of that to some of these movies. But some of them are great fun. The production value of films such as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is nothing to be sneezed at, either.

I have fond memories of seeing many of these pictures on TV and during the matinee series my hometown theater used to screen during summer vacation each year, complete with cartoons and serial chapters before the main attraction!

The 50s through the 70s were Disney's live-action glory years, during which the produced a number of classic films -- along with some that were not-so-classic. Here's a gallery of posters for all the features Disney released in the 50s. We'll get around to the 60s and 70s in coming weeks.
