Our picks this week. Click the links to order from Amazon.

Conan the Barbarian and the pirate queen Bêlit continue their quest to reclaim her rightful place on the throne of Asgalun. They must descend deep down the River Styx into Luxur, the capital city of Stygia, land of snake-worshippers, in search of Bêlit’s father. Along the way they’ll encounter raiders off the coast of Shem and the famous—and deadly—Hawk-Riders of Harakht. The journey also takes Conan to the Lost Valley of Iskander as he pursues the powerful Eye of Set and into swamps where a sultry witch and man-dragons threaten to devour him alive! Then, Conan is joined by one of the fiercest allies he’ll ever know—the formidable fighter and skilled mage, Zula!
COLLECTING: Vol. 6: Conan the Barbarian (1970) 72-88

In the late ’80s, artist Val Semeiks took the reins on Conan the Barbarian injecting a powerful new energy into the series. Semeiks’ work was a force multiplier for the latter half of Christopher Priest’s era-defining run. Together, they crafted one of the greatest Conan epics of all time, a massive story line building issue #200 and a showdown with the Devourer of Souls. As the Devourer reveals his final gambit, drawing upon the power of the Elder Gods, Conan must seek aid from one whose name even he dreads: Thulsa Doom! Also featuring the return of Red Sonja, the acclaimed “Heku Trilogy” and early work by Andy Kubert, this is one Omnibus you don’t want to miss! By Crom!
COLLECTING: Conan the Barbarian (1970) 195-213, Conan the Barbarian Annual (1973) 12, Official Handbook of the Conan Universe (1986) 1

New Character Posters and Images from "Star Wars: Andor" on Disney+

First Pic of Marvel's Namor from "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" Surfaces

Our first peek at Tenoch Huerta as the Sub-Mareener via Empire mag.

Namor will be played here by Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta, previously seen in The Forever Purge and Tigers Are Not Afraid – with this incarnation of the character inspired by the culture and history of Mesoamerica. “You can take Atlantis from Greek myth, or you can adapt from a real culture,” argues Huerta. Rather than the ruler of Atlantis, on the screen he’s the ruler of Talocan – and he’s drawn to the surface by the ramifications of T’Challa’s decision in Black Panther’s final reel to reveal the truth of Wakanda to the world. “That decision puts Talocan in jeopardy,” Huerta explains. “And Talocan has to take action to protect themselves.” One detail that is carrying over from the comics? According to Huerta, his Namor is indeed a mutant.

Coming Up: "Cliffhanger! Cinematic Superheroes of the Serials: 1941-1952"

Out in July from TwoMorrows Publishing. Order here

Details:

Hold on tight as historian Christopher Irving explores the origins of the first on-screen superheroes and the comic creators and film-makers who brought them to life.

Cliffhanger! touches on the early days of the film serial, to its explosion as a juvenile medium of the 1930s and ‘40s. See how the creation of characters like Superman, Captain America, Spy Smasher, and Captain Marvel dovetailed with the early film adaptations.

Along the way, you’ll meet the stuntmen, directors (Spencer Bennett, William Witney, producer Sam Katzman), comic book creators (Siegel & Shuster, Simon & Kirby, Bob Kane, C.C. Beck, Frank Frazetta, Will Eisner), and actors (Buster Crabbe, George Reeves, Lorna Gray, Kane Richmond, Kirk Alyn, Dave O’Brien) who brought them to the silver screen—and how that resonates with today’s cinematic superhero universe.

Coming Up: "The Best of Simon & Kirby's Mainline Comics" Collects Duo's 1950s Multi-Genre Work

Out next summer, this will be a nice addition to the growing library of books focused on the pioneering work of Marvel Universe co-creator Jack Kirby.

Details from TwoMorrows Publishing:

THE BEST OF SIMON & KIRBY’S MAINLINE COMICS by JOE SIMON & JACK KIRBY

Introduction by JOHN MORROW

In 1954, industry legends JOE SIMON and JACK KIRBY founded MAINLINE PUBLICATIONS to publish their own comics during that turbulent era in comics history. The four titles—BULLSEYE, FOXHOLE, POLICE TRAP, and IN LOVE—looked to build off their reputation as hit makers in the Western, War, Crime, and Romance genres, but the 1950s backlash against comics killed any chance at success, and Mainline closed its doors just two years later. For the first time, TwoMorrows Publishing is compiling the best of Simon & Kirby’s Mainline comics work, including all of the stories with S&K art, as well as key tales with contributions by MORT MESKIN and others. After the company’s dissolution, their partnership ended with Simon leaving comics for advertising, and Kirby taking unused Mainline concepts to both DC and Marvel. This collection bridges the gap between Simon & Kirby’s peak with their 1950s romance comics, and the lows that led to Kirby’s resurgence with CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN and the early MARVEL UNIVERSE. With loving art restoration by CHRIS FAMA, and an historical overview by JOHN MORROW to put it all into perspective, the BEST OF SIMON & KIRBY’S MAINLINE COMICS presents some of the final, and finest, work Joe and Jack ever produced.
