BBC radio explores history of "Trock": Doctor Who-inspired Time Lord Rock!

Listen here.

Details:
Doctor Who celebrates its fiftieth birthday this weekend, and Huw Stephens meets fellow fans to tell the story of Trock - or Time Lord rock. Trock's a musical genre inspired by the stories and characters of Doctor Who, and made famous by YouTube video bloggers like Charlie McDonnell and Alex Day. We're going back in time to tell the story of the show, including a special message to Radio 1's Doctor Who fans from out-going Doctor Matt Smith. From the Dalek-mania of the 60s to the show's phenomenal reboot in 2005, from a junkyard on Totters Lane to theatre-filling premieres in New York City, we're celebrating the Doctor's birthday with his biggest fans.

Here's the BBC's official blurb on the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, "Time of the Doctor."

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - and amongst them, the Doctor.

Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

Looks like the Cybermen may show up, too. The episode is Matt Smith's last as the Doctor.

So long, Chico Hamilton

The great jazz drummer passed away today at age 92. I highly recommend his Pacific Jazz albums of the late 1950s, which blended classical and Eastern influences with his brand West Coast jazz, a sample of which is featured in the video below, an excerpt from one of the best live music films ever, "Jazz on a Summer's Day."
